Cheese Crackers
I love cheese crackers… back in the day I would buy the buttery cheese center filled crackers and I could never get enough. Man that TBHQ and natural flavoring pulls you back in for more! These crackers are not the cheese center filled crackers, but they are flakey and buttery, plus they have no MSG. Ha.
I want to know something funny and very odd? I have never thought dairy was that great. It was fine, or sometimes even gross. I didn’t feel great when I ate it so I never loved it. I was ok if I didn’t have it! Anyhow- in 2021 I go and catch that popular sickness that everyone was talking about (you know the “vid”). After that I had the full couldn’t taste or smell for 9 months, right, Ya know the usual go around with the “vid”.
Well… one thing that did happen was I started craving cheese like crazy. I mean as bad as pregnant ladies crave watermelon cravings! It was insane. I couldn’t get enough cheese. I talked to a few practitioners about it and some said it was my gut flora being a mess, some said it was low calcium, some said it was just a taste bud issue. Meh. Who knows! So welcome to the new me who likes cheese and is totally confused by it. I still think a lot of milk products smell like a barn but for some reason I am on a body wants cheese kick. (This was back in 2022, currently at the end of 2023 I am starting to calm down on my cheese addiction).
So what does that bring us to? Cheese crackers, naturally! I love cheese crackers and the garbage they put in cheese Its should really be illegal. So many ingredients in most cheese crackers from the store that are down right lame. You can watch my Instagram video about cheese crackers here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmM8RZlDMMi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=ODhhZWM5NmIwOQ==
These crackers have flax seed, almond flour, cassava flour (you can buy that here: https://www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/food/flour/cassava-flour/cassava-flour-organic/19888?package=FL299&a_aid=G41ULdWVVd. I like to get my flax seed from Natural Grocers and my cassava from Azure standard.
Cassava flour is one that I have learned we need to eat in limited amounts, if you have thyroid issues or it runs in your family, limiting how much cassava you eat would be a good idea. Cassava has also been shown to have high lead content, you can read more about that here: https://tamararubin.com/2023/03/ive-been-helping-a-mama-whose-doctor-had-unknowingly-put-her-on-a-high-lead-diet-that-poisoned-both-her-her-breast-fed-baby/
If you are now scared of using the cassava flour, I will ask you – are you still eating rice? Rice is high in arsenic so, we win some we loose some. Just don’t over do the cassava and eat lots of organic produce & cilantro to help you detox. If you are still nervous about the cassava, don’t worry. I will post a recipe that is free from cassava in the next few weeks.
These crackers use real cheese, none of this fake half plastic garbage. I have enjoyed the Ol Croc Cheese at Natural Grocers or KerryGold cheddar cheese works well too.
So these cheese crackers are crispy, flakey, nourishing and super tasty! Hope you like them. Please let me know what you think!
