Why I clean my teeth with dirt

Growing up the dentist told me the basics- brush, floss and limit sugar to keep cavities away. Well I was the kid who followed those rules exceptionally well. I brushed, flossed and tried to limit candy, I mean I was a kid growing up in a world that offers sugar ALL the time so I did my best with what I knew. Sadly I was also the kid that was told every six months that there were yet another set of cavities that needed filling. That was my life and it was totally normal to have my teeth drilled into every 6 months. In 2013 I was a 24-year-old and a new mama, I was lucky to stumble across information on remineralizing teeth. I was a bit confused and extremely interested because maybe there was a chance I could heal my teeth!
What is a tooth made of?
Teeth are made of multiple different layers but we are going to look at two of the basics of a tooth, these basics are 1- enamel and 2- dentin.
1. The enamel, this is the hard substance you see when you look in the mirror, flash that smile and say “hey you sexy thing”.
2. The dentin, this is a softer material under the enamel. The dentin is what you usually see when teeth start to gray or yellow, this is because the enamel is wearing or thin and you see the dentin through the enamel.
The enamel is the hard protective layer that protects the dentin. It is nearly entirely made of minerals and these minerals have a blueprint of being extremely strong.
Even with this extremely strong protective layer – sadly cavities are considered normal and regularly happen in teeth, especially with the SAD (Standard American Diet).
How dirt helps
I started brushing my teeth with dirt! No, I do not go out to my garden, grab a handful of soil and slab it on my teeth (although, when I was a kid I would always sneak out of the house to find rocks I could suck the dirt off of … pica child?…).
I use specific clays for my teeth along with other ingredients that help remineralize the teeth. The clays I use are extremely high in minerals, they help detox and balance the PH of the mouth. Over the years (started experiments in 2016) I have experimented with over 80 ingredients in making my own tooth powder. Some of my creations tasted terrible, some of them stained my teeth very yellow, some didn’t help at all. After all this time I finally have a creation I see the good results from. This mixture of ingredients has taken four years to create and I am so happy to share it with others.
So why do I brush my teeth with dirt? After learning about the ingredients in “normal” toothpaste (which I will talk about in another post), I knew I could never go back! Those products do not heal the teeth, they can even damage them and cause side effects that have long term negative effects on the body. I brush my teeth with dirt (clays, mineral powders, earth based micro hydroxyapatite and sea salt) because these are minerals that heal the teeth. These minerals rebuild the enamel to strengthen and protect from bacteria along with whitening the teeth.
My teeth went from many cavities to no cavities. Now I am cavity free and my teeth are significantly whiter. Check out my store to purchase my tooth powder so you too can start brushing your teeth with dirt. Or click here.
